Bansko

Visitors to Bansko will discover a magic blend of history, culture, ancient architecture, authentic folklore, customs and specific cuisine, a unique symbol of the Bulgarian Spirit and the mountain renaissance town traditions.

There is no other town like Bankso that can provide opportunities for mountain tourism, winter sports events, professional workshops and meetings, eco and rural tourism, alpinism, spa tourism, summer and winter tours in the mountains. The mountain is strewn with numerous crystal lakes and natural sites which make tours attractive for all tastes.


In the winter Bansko becomes the sports centre in the Pirin Mountain offering a range of skiing, snowboarding, paragliding and ice skating. During the summer Bansko is the premier location for tourist activities throughout the mountain range including hiking, fishing, cycling, golf, horse riding, hunting (with proper permission slips).

There are also some interesting festivals in Bansko during the summer. On 19th May Bansko holds a large rock festival, on 20-21 May there is a folk festival “Between three mountains”, and between 8-13th of August an international jazz festival comes to town. This is why every year thousands of tourists come here to discover Bansko and Pirin, two names eternally associated with unique attractive power and virgin beauty. The town is a gate to the most apealing part of Pirin with its symbols, the wild goat and the edelweiss.

The Pirin National Park has an area of 40,356 hectares, nearly one third of these are situated on the territory of Bansko municipality. It is included in the list of National Parks and Reserves of the United Nations and in the list of the Conventions for Protection of World’s Cultural and National Heritage (UNESCO).
